G.Puccini - Madama Butterfly, new production of Jiří Heřman, Prague State Opera
From the competent musical staging by conductor Martin Leginus, one could sense a deep analysis of the complicated work. He succeeded in optimally combining space for beautiful singing with dramatic nerve. The approach was reminiscent of the legendary Herbert von Karajan, who often preferred the orchestral part. His aim, like Leginus's, was musical drama. The State Opera Orchestra played flawlessly, with considerable dramatic commitment as well as the ability to be lyrically hushed.
