Engelbert Humperdinck - Hänsel und Gretel, a new production of Matěj Forman (son of Miloš Forman) in the State Opera Prague, Czech Republic
The orchestra of the State Opera under Martin Leginus played with literally every colour you can imagine in a fairy tale. He has managed to evoke an atmosphere of tension, feelings of fear, joy and childish frolic. Exceptional was the work with dynamics, where at times the orchestra only subtly accompanied the soloists, while at other times it was able to shine to the full. This is what a truly precise musical staging of a work looks like. Conductor Martin Leginus was helped by his excellent knowledge of opera.
